stew for you

I just made this stew the other day from my martha stewart magazine and it turned out pretty good! super easy to make and it didn't even last till the following day.

Ingredients

* 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
* 3 carrots, thinly sliced
* 3 celery stalks, thinly sliced
* 1 medium yellow onion, diced medium
* Coarse salt and ground pepper
* 1 tablespoon tomato paste
* 1 can (28 ounces) whole peeled tomatoes
* 1 bunch kale, stems removed, leaves torn into bite-size pieces
* 1 can (15.5 ounces) cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
* 2 sprigs thyme

full recipe here.

photos of the day for the last couple of days... although I am skipping "fave photo of you" and "where you work". I posted them on instagram, but neither are interesting or worth re-posting.

do you write in all caps?

THESE LAST FEW DAYS HAVEN'T BEEN MY FAVORITE IDEAS, SO I'M NOT HAPPY WITH MY PHOTOS. I TRIED THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX, WHICH IS WHY I LIKE THIS PROJECT.... AND I THINK, LOOKING BACK ON IT, I HAVE EVEN BETTER IDEAS FOR SOME OF THESE. MAYBE I'LL TRY THOSE OUT. THANKS FOR THE NEW IDEA!

handwriting: lately i've noticed some really nice chalkboard handwriting/art. i need to document that better.

maybe i'm just really into typography these days.

Things i hate to do: Saying goodbye to my dear friend. i had a difficult time walking out the door.

Drink: this is one i wasn't excited about and would like a chance to do over. i waited for ages to be seated at this arabic restaurant in Dearborn. Much worth it, but i spent lot of time looking at these drinks, or moreso, I watched the people in the reflection of the drinks.

Time: I like this time of day. i wonder how this building stays up, but maybe seeing the american flag through the doorway is like a sign or something. ha

punkrocker

I haven't been taking photos with my phone for the photo project. I take them with my DSLR and I don't have time to download the cards everyday and upload them, etc etc. So my "photo-of-the-day" is not daily. that's cool though, right? I still execute shots daily and that's what matters. I guess the instagram part of the project is mostly what I'm referring to. o well, anyway..

this first one is "something new" i just bought from wanderlust. The cutest, camera stamp that kind of matched the camera I used on my website. I have another camera stamp on it's way that resembles the leica more accurately.

Phone. I got these lil' phones at a flea market. The story is, I wanted them and didn't get them so my mom who knew this, came home with them for me later. what a sweet mom i have. There were four different vintage phones, a poodle and a hotdog-dog; a dachshund.

heart. It was valentines day but I wear this heart everyday so it was what i thought of first. drawn by my dear friend, fred many yrs ago. Tattooed on the same day i went to see bonnie prince billy play in ohio. may have been in 2000.

Here's something else new that I found today:

especially if the sun is out

yesterday's photo of the day was what makes me happy (below). today's, not as exciting, which you see above.. is my closet. fancy, huh? If I had one of those "dream" closets, I could probably get a more interesting and wider perspective but mine is the size of a shoebox.

yesterday's music was grizzly bear, white antelope, wu-tang (which doesn't make me happy, actually kinda annoys me) and this amazing blues singer who sounded amazing. i'll have to find out who that was again.

best kitties, best friends ever. <3

infused oils

i recently made mint infused oil for the mojitos, but this one is for my pizza.
if you are interested, here is the recipe for chili pepper oil. They suggest using canola oil, but i used olive oil anyway. :)

I've been putting all my oils and liquids in these little bottles I've accumulated, and then labeling them in a tiny strip of paper in the center. I don't have that shown here, but all my spices follow the same suit. Here's the simple syrup I just made as well. easy to make, and perfect for my iced coffee!

rain and walls

you: Wo ist das?
me: Das ist ihr Haus.

I was at a friend's house last night and in one corner I spotted this wall that I loved. I once did something similar, but with all shots I've taken from the plane (some from the ground as well), in all parts of the world. but these are little drawings with the same sort of idea. nice.

My dear friends Colleen and Chris were married late December. I only captured a few quick moments as we were leaving, since it was oh-so-cold! You are so pretty, my darling girl. wishes and dreams for you two. Congratulations!!

India Town

I've been trying new things.

also, i have a "before" photo of a project I'm working on. I'm fixing up this shelf for my jars. Hopefully it will look less country-home when I'm done.
